Self-Realization

sister
cousin
daughter
fighter
griot
my calling
I've accepted
never could fight it
child of the Most High
lettin my little light shine
brighter than some outer space
explosion
acknowledging the corruption
the corrosion
of our culture
tainting a sacred art form
blond hair and blue eyes
ain't my norm
refusing to conform
choosing to fight the power
that threatens to devour
the legacies of predecessors
long since gone
the race is far from being won
progress has been made
but progress alone won't reserve hope
for seeds still in tha ghetto
deep in the gutter
that haven't had a chance to grow
change stars
within the hearts of individuals first
the truth still remains
I am a catalyst for change
promise
courage
integrity
a voice
for souls that will never get a chance to speak
