RELAPSE

If I don't get out now
then love will
Five days and five nights
and no words between us.
Apologies hang in the air like dust
and we sit in stubborn lust
thinking of the last time we touched,
too proud to be the first
to collapse into repentance.
too proud to be the first
concerned of our dignity

Still five nights
and we're too proud to be
no words between us
and we're too proud to be
Our apologies collect dust
and we're too proud that we've put them on a shelf
left them to rust next to our lost touch
As we live together between these walls
Separate
waiting
hoping the other would relapse.
