Black robes

He stood before us
Adorned in black robes;
His head wrapped with knowledge
Of his African heritage.
"You are slaves," he declared,
"if you sit before a box
For hours watching white people
Dressed in the latest fashion
Of men who hate black people.
Then you turn around and want
To wear what they wear.
Everyone in the same clothes
Like prisoners! Slavery!"

It was then I recalled
Watching him on TV
Adorned in black robes
Preaching his gospel
Of the Black Messiah
Soliciting disciples
Like a televangelist.
