Your Memory

Your memory follows me
Around corners, across miles, into bars
And birthday parties
It sleeps with me and waits for me to wake up
Your memory is the flavor of your favorite
Ice cream on my tongue
It touches my tears with a satin kerchief
And pours velvet consolations
Into my ears
Your memory waits with me
By the window for the first glimmer
Of your return
My mind is filled with your scent
So that I keep breathing in, in fear
Its faintness will fade
I ache for you
And hide your memory from yourself
Lest you return too soon
And jealously interrupt us
