"NOT YET 'FREE AT LAST"'

As a reminder that the
Chains of slavery still drag
You only have to look at
The America's overcrowded prison cells
To know that we are
"Not Yet 'Free at Last"'

Black on black crime
Bruthas lookin for that dime
Is there any good reason for
Back folk being smitten by police
In their prime
Are we being jazzed
Or is it
We are "Not Yet 'Free At Last"'

It's not that African Americans
Drive too fast
But if you are Black and male
Driving while Black
Walking while Black
Jogging while black
Bird watching while Black
Is a growing reality
Most every Brutha meets
Humiliation
Frustration
Dehumanization
Squarely are your feet
The first wrong move
Can send you to the morgue
Cold
Lifeless
In a body bag

I hate to state the obvious
I hate to be so crass
But it appears to me
Bruthas and Sistahs
We are "Not Yet 'Free At Last"'
