African Heartbeat

My thirsty eyes greedily drank
the greatness of South Africa
my hungry ears absorbed
the sacred silence of the night
I buried my heart into the red earts
of the anthills and see, it was beating
in close harmony with the rhytm
of a faraway drum
I opened the borders of my mind
and gave entry to all of your voices
Zulo, Xosa, Sotho, Tsonga, Siswati
woza, woza Africa, tlaya, tlaya Africa
come, come Africa
your women welcomed me with a
warm smile as a homecoming sister
we talked and talked, soul mating,
hand in hand
it will be a difficult goodbye, tomorrow
but the promise of a return will be
anchored withing the friendship of today
