Life ain't nothing to write about

You told me you write poetry
Because you had a lot to say
You said that your words made you free
So you write about your ways.

Life ain't nothing to write about

You stare at me as if
I've grown a head or two
You say poetry is such a joy
Why don't I write one too?

Life ain't nothing to write about

You showed me how to start
Write a middle and an end
You say that it should flow
But that rule can be bent

So…

I've listened to your words
And your advice I heed
But my time can be used
To do things that I need.

The children need their food
I have to clean the house
So sorry brother Richard
But life's nothing to write about.
