Acerbic Pill of Poverty

She wept the day she was born.
She had reasons.
Who was the father of the birth of her fate?
One who has given her life
destined to escape
neither Puertorican
nor Black American.
The union of her birth
has been torn
by forlorn hope
she may never know.
In her life she will swallow
an acerbic, white pill
of poverty
and be stoned
by painful stereotypical perceptions.
Bled white by the wounds
she will be left on her own
to aspire
and find heights
above the abysmal sky
only to fall short
of her own self worth
and never know.
