A Journey

I look with dark eyes at the world ahead...
The reflection of the land makes me smile...
Despite its grimness...,
I inhale the smell of the dirt...
The ruins of what was...,
still bearing some life...
The monologue of me finds its way...,
Reminding me of the things I ought to do...
I find the strength to ignore my thoughts...,
Returning to the sight of a dark sky...
Myself,
In it,
Reflected...
Fear creeps into my soul...,
Poisoning me with thoughts of loss...
Torturing me with memories of many yesterdays...
Conserving me in a native land...,
To face the possibility of what is to come...
In a state that was not my own...,
I return to some reality...
The new over-sensitivity catches me off-guard...
I stop...
Wondering about the permanence of this new self...
Pondering its endurance...,
Its long lasting effects...
Every new day bringing new challenges and defeats...,
Daring me...,
Stealing my energy...
I am seduced to halt...
Something internal fights...
The calming darkness remains...,
Accompanying me towards the unknown...,
Forward into the depths of me...,
Uncovering my bearings.
